Operational Planning and Scheduling of Logistics for Offshore Arctic Drilling Platforms Supported by Simulation

Operational planning of logistics for offshore arctic drilling platforms supported by simulation.

Period: October 2018 – May 2019
Industry: Oil and Gas
Client / Partner: Gazprom Neft / BRIGHT Group

Project objective

Development of the system of materials and hydrocarbon shipment planning and modeling for offshore sea production and exploration drilling

The main stages of work and characteristics of the system

  • Development of the prototype tool for the logistics modeling system
  • Development of the simulation model on the AnyLogic platform
  • Verification and validation of the simulation model in cooperation with client’s team

System input data

  • Information about capacity and transportation speed of vessels
  • Routes of shipment
  • Requirements for the modes of emergency rescue watch by the platforms
  • Schedules of hydrocarbon production and transportation
  • Schedules of platforms supply with materials and removal of waste
  • Weather forecasts, ice conditions and other factors affecting the duration of vessel shifting, loading and unloading operations by the platforms

The main structural elements of the system

  • Input data file of scenario in MS Excel format
  • Simulation model with interactive presentation
  • Data aggregation module that allows to generate MS Excel files with the simulation results

System output data

  • Timeliness of support facilities supply with materials and personnel and shipment of produced hydrocarbon
  • Average and peak capacity utilization of materials and hydrocarbon storage locations on the platforms
  • Average and peak capacity utilization of vessel
  • Average and peak number of used transportation units
  • Transportation time utilization

Project result

  • Logistics modeling system that is used for planning and operational modeling of various logistics scenarios
  • The system provides possibility of scenario analysis of plan stability based on repeated simulation experiments considering harsh weather conditions of the Arctic waters
